Padmapani is a Bodhisattva, or someone on the path to enlightenment or Buddhahood. He is the embodiment of compassion and a prominent figure in Buddhist imagery. Here he is seen holding the Padma, or lotus flower, and is hence known as Padmapani, or "One who holds a lotus in his palm."
